Parks and Green Spaces

Glasgow is affectionately known by locals as ‘the dear green place’, and is home to several parks and gardens on both sides of the River Clyde. If you want some time away from the convention to gather your thoughts and get back to nature, the below places offer a respite from the busy city.

The Glasgow Social Wiki has a comprehensive list.

Kelvingrove Park is the closest large park to the SEC.

Kelvingrove Park

Established in 1842 on its current site at the north end of Byres Road, the Botanic Gardens were originally restricted to members of the Royal Botanical Institution – though on several days per year the public were allowed entry for the sum of one penny – but financial troubles led them to be taken over by the city corporation and opened to members of the public.

By far the oldest of Glasgow's parks, it is situated at the east end of the city centre.

Supposedly Glasgow's prettiest park, it is also home of Victoria Parkrun, 0930 on Saturdays. Close to the SEC.

Home of the Burrell Collection but a lovely park in its own right.
